The Steller's sea eagle, Haliaeetus pelagicus, is in the top three of the most powerful raptors on earth. I framed this image to capture the presence of this bird in its environment. It is a difficult location and a challenging shoot. First, you have to navigate through the thick pack ice and then once out in the water your platform to shoot from is a small fishing boat that is constantly tossing with the rough waves of the ocean. To see these birds at home in what we humans consider a harsh environment was amazing.
